Zalando Second Hand
All taken by the green wave that seems to have overwhelmed a large part of human and entrepreneurial consciences.
When Greta Thunberg began her diffusion campaign she was cheered by the crowd and many followed in her wake. When the 2030 agenda was announced, we began to see the first changes among companies that will have to meet its objectives. But never as with the advent of COVID have we seen so much excitement around the word "sustainability".
It comes like this Zalando Second Hand, to lend a hand to the planet, and why not, also to the cashier of the company of the same name.
What is Zalando Second Hand?
It is a section of the Zalando website where it is possible to buy second-hand clothing.
It is equally interesting to know that you can offer your used products (clothing, bags, shoes, accessories) and have them purchased by Zalando who will sell them in the "Second Hand" section:
- Let's say you purchased a product from Zalando and the 100 days for returning the goods have passed, but you have used this product very little and it is still new.
- Or you may have purchased the product from another store, but you have used it so little that it can still be considered new.
In these cases you can ask Zalando to rate your garment / accessory, and you can do it simply by registering, uploading the product photo and some basic information:
- Log in or register on Zalando.it
- In the main menu click on the Second Hand item, then on Swap your items.
- You will find yourself on a web page with a crutch and a link that says Add an article, click on it.
- Choose a photo of the product you want to trade.
- Select the category (men, women, unisex, children).
- Select the brand to which the product belongs among those in the list (at the moment we understand that you cannot sell brands that are not in the list).
- Select the product category and click Save at the top right.
At this point you will have to wait Zalando's product evaluation, which reserves the right to accept or reject the product and to offer you an evaluation of the same.
We advise you to load only products that are really in excellent condition, Zalando Second Hand it is not a flea market.
It is important to know that the exchange does not take place in euros, but in credits that can be spent within Zalando. Basically you will be offered 10, 20, 100 credits (you can accept or decline their offer).
You can use the credits to purchase new products, both in the Second Hand section and in other sections of the Zalando website.
Zalando Second Hand is a project closely related to the app Zalando Circle launched in 2018.

What is Zalando's commitment to sustainable fashion?
Zalando he has been talking about for some time sustainable fashion, in fact, they define themselves "A sustainable fashion platform with a net positive impact for people and the planet":
- By 2025, we have achieved our scientific goals to reduce carbon emissions in line with the Paris Agreement, including an 80% reduction in emissions from our operations compared to 2017.
- By 2023, we will design our packaging to minimize waste and keep materials in use, especially eliminating single-use plastics.
- Since October 2019, our operations and all deliveries and returns are carbon neutral.
- In 2020, we purchased 100% renewable electricity and reduced emissions from our operations by 64% compared to 2017.
- In 2020, we reduced the amount of single-use plastic packaging per item shipped by 22%.
- 87% of our packaging was made with recycled materials.
These are the commitments made by Zalando towards our planet. Clearly, these are the words dictated by the company itself and being able to judge them is not that simple.
Of course, we know that Zalando sells numerous fashion brands in its platform, and many of these are far from sustainable. We therefore appreciate her commitment, but we are still a long way away from defining her as a sustainable fashion platform.
However, there is a section of the site dedicated to eco-sustainable clothing and one dedicated to the most sustainable shoes. Find these two pages right in the main menu of Zalando, under the heading clothing and under the heading shoes. We also appreciate this, while raising some doubts about the various products / brands displayed in these categories.
We therefore advise the most attentive consumers of Zalando to carefully evaluate the proprietary brand of the product.
